This week's projects at Kickstarter.com - Nov 10 '11Everything is illuminated Shannon Guirl has always been a fan of the craftsmanship and aesthetic of Mid-Century modern design. Combining her skills as an artisan and product designer, she's updated the classic lamps that graced homes in the 1950s and '60s to make them what she calls "New Century Modern." They're made of hand-turned wood, durable stoneware, and linen shades, and maintain that Mid-Century simplicity that makes us swoon. Explore this project You don't need a weatherman... Most weather apps bring you forecasts every half-hour or hour, but imagine if you could predict the weather accurately down to the minute. That's the idea behind Dark Sky, a new weather app that focuses on making highly accurate predictions at small intervals so you'll know whether or not to grab that umbrella as you're running out the door. Explore hours of storm data at a stretch, and rest assured that this time, the weather forecast is right. Explore this project A literary landmark Harvey Pekar is perhaps best known as the man behind American Splendor, a series of autobiographical comics that brought the graphic novel to a brand new audience. Since his passing, the comics community has banded together to honor Harvey, his love of comics, and his native Cleveland. With this project, an interactive sculpture will be installed on a writing desk at the Cleveland Heights Public Library, inspiring patrons to go forth and draw more comics.
