Life-size legos
The Global Village Construction Set is an open-source, DIY platform that allows for the low-cost fabrication of the tools it takes to build small, modern villages. The machinery is heavy-duty — prototypes thus far include tractors and drill presses — but the mission is high-spirited: to lower the barrier to entry for creating sustainable human settlements, so that anybody has the ability to transform their own environment.

Sing your heart out
The Young@Heart chorus started as a way to joyfully pass the time in an elderly housing project. Thirty years later, this rock group has been the subject of a feature-length documentary and regularly tours the globe performing pop songs to sold-out (and teary-eyed) audiences. The group's members range in age from 73 to 89, and while most of them have never heard of Kickstarter, they're all excited to record their 30th anniversary double album.
