Opportunity for High School Students to Attend SIGGRAPH this summer for Free! (Note: no transportation or housing provided, but anyone can apply.)
Spend a Week at the biggest, baddest, coolest computer graphics conference/festival/show/extravaganza IN THE WORLD.
It's FREE, and you get to see and do it all with your very own Pioneer Mentor - an experienced industry pro.
SIGGRAPH 2012 = you + 25,000 creators and users of computer graphics and interactive techniques, in Los Angeles for five full days of world-class technical presentations, creative exploration, and the industry's largest marketplace of products and services: the SIGGRAPH 2012 Exhibition. August 5 - 9, 2012, the 39th Annual Siggraph at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
Spend a Week at SIGGRAPH is a program for high school students aged 16 or over.
The goal of the program is to give a group of local area high school students a full week's exposure to the best of computer graphics and interactive techniques. The Pioneers will provide one or two mentors who will work with the student before, during, and after the show.
What a Student Receives
Each Spend a Week at SIGGRAPH student will receive full conference registration (value: nearly $1000). Each student needs to be in the local area as there is no housing or transportation provided. There is no need for the student to be directly involved in technology. It's fine to not know exactly what you want to do. Teachers will help in the selection process, so you need to have at least a C GPA. And we can arrange for a teacher or parent to accompany you to the conference.
Expectations for Selected Students
You need to commit to:
Attend a full sampling of SIGGRAPH events.
Use your mentor to learn more about the conference and the history and direction of computer graphics.
Write a one to two page summary of your experience and how it's impacted you. You'll send your summary to your mentor.
How Can a Student Be Selected
A parent, teacher, or student must contact me, Kathleen Milnes, at firstname.lastname@example.org and they will be emailed an application form.
The deadline for contacting me is June 6, 2012. The deadline for applying is June 22.
The student recruiter will build the list for the Pioneers to support.
You will be notified by June 30, 2012 if you have been selected.
The Computer Graphics Pioneers and ACM SIGGRAPH thank the National Science Foundation and GRAND for their generous support of the 2011 Pioneers High School Mentoring Program. Sponsors for 2012 include the NVIDIA Foundation and conference attendees.
