We're going to continue with our contests soon. There's some unfinished business we have to take care of. We owe Olve and BobW a tee shirt plus we need to make arrangements for the Animation Magazine subscriptions.

For those winners that haven't received the complete prize package yet, thanks a million for your patience. We're all caught up with allocating prize money but we need to attend to these other items. Once we get the situation in order, we'll proceed with our 10th contest.

I do indeed apologize for the delay and I thank you both for your pateince in the matter. Brian was taking care of this and when he moved to the Seattle area, it became difficult to attend to and impossible to coordinate since he was no longer just down the road. Those that know me know how many things I'm juggling around at any given time so I keep putting this on the back burner but forget to turn on the stove. Brian was invaluable in this regard, so I'm trying to make due without him here.

The tees are reserved for you both so don't be concerned that they won't get to you.

There's also a dialogue we need to conduct with Animation Magazine. The expense of shipping subscriptions to Europe are prohibitive as it is not something the good folks over there should absorb since they are contributing the subscription for free and domestic postage is negligible. So AN needs to cover the expense and we have to talk to them about it first. Again, something to take care of but keeps getting put off due to my professional and personal obligations that take up a great deal of my time.

We'll take care of all of this soon so please indulge us just a little while longer. Thanks again, guys.

Well charles you could always send all of the copies for europe to me and i will send them on from here (holland), the last leg i can do thru the company, so it won't cost you any money I don't know if that would keep your cost down enough?

Thanks for the offer Roger, but it's just a couple of shirts that we need to ship out. Something that can be handled without too much hassle from here. We're getting to it. The rest of what's left of the inventory of first run tees are going for sale online very soon.

Could we get another contest with a phrase that isn't a piece of exposition? I like those better.
Words I might want to animate something to?
It is Animation Nation afterall. And I still pee myself when I think about BobW's balloon toon. [Smile]

Thanks again Eric!! I pee myself too regularly!! (haharharharhar dutch humor)

Nice to know more people are going to send animated entries and hope more people will enter so it wont be a one person show.

PEE PEE PEEEEEEE PEEEE

But seriously.

I am with you Bob.
I got my HP scanner set up with an autoload tray.
and I finally am working with FlipBook to do lots of tests.

If I can do it....man... the price of entry just got lowered exponentially. [Smile]

I would hope we could find some written dialog, statement or sample and(or) a sound file like the ten second club stuff only less lame. [Big Grin]
I am just hoping for a good potential two character piece or one person diatribe with a good rhythm without obvious visual cues.
Something out of an old Film Noir or Classic Pot Boiler....or even a romantic comedy.
A couple lines from Forster or Dumas?
A Bazooka Joe 2 panel?

gah?

Hey Eric,

Is that loading tray a custom job or can you buy them?

It comes with certain models.
It works well for tests.
10 field. 8.5 X 11 paper.
The scanning bar is dragged to be fixed at the front end of the scanner and the page is rolled past it, smoothly and evenly and put face down in the receiving tray ready to be at the head of the line again.

Registration can sometimes shift slightly so for final clean scanning before color, you want to do it one by one and laboriously slow.

This may be the nature of the beast, or the fact that I have an ape arm and my graphite marks rest in channels I dig in the paper. [Wink]

I got mine from Staples new because I had a discount coupon. [Smile]

They have gotten less and less expensive as time has passed. [Smile]

There's some animation software out there that can recognise pegholes in your paper, and line them all up automatically, so you can still use the auto feed when scanning, Eric.
I haven't tried that yet myself, but I got the info from a friend.
I think Toonz can do it, and this program by Cambridge Animation S...omething(CAS, anyway), but I can remember the name of that last program.

When the next contest starts should we look here for details or will it be posted in other forums, too.

Just Curious.....

A notice is posted in General Discussion with a link to the topic in the Contest Forum.

Here's what's up with #10.

Brian is the high ramalama of the AN contests. He's recently relocated from LA to another town and has been picked up in a very positive full time employment situation. Brian has been volunteering his energies to AN for years. When he's ready to attend to it, we'll get the contest rolling. Please be patient for a little longer. Thanks.

How many people would be up for weekly challenges In between the contests?

No prizes for the Challenges.. just friendly competition, and winner gets to pick the next challenge? Challenge runs Monday through Saturday.. Sunday is the Voting day, and Monday the Winner is announced.

Only rule is: If you snooze, you lose!

I think this would build people's "art kung-fu" fast, and would be something interesting to check everyday.

Proffesionals vs. Hobbyists vs. Amateurs

Side note about the word "amateur"
.. it's a french word meaning "For the love of"
Which is pretty fitting

I think that's a great idea! I'd certainly be up for that. [Smile]

We'd probably have to set-up something like this in the Gallery forum, though .. so that it doesn't get confused with the 'real' Contests .. [Yes]

Well, if we do they should be one offs and limited/ rough things. Like no more than three frames a second for a 5 second clip or illustrating or animating a concept with no running time pressure, but showing style and verve. I mean really push the concept without getting too "finished" or "stiff".

Somewhere between Grunthos and Balloon.

I did Grunthos in a couple of hours.. maybe 4 tops.

And I like the idea of holding it in the gallery to avoid confusion with the contest.

Contest #10 will be coordinated by Offbeat.

We'll also be featuring Gallery Challenges which will be handled by Offbeat as well.

We're going to get to this after AN#7 this coming Friday, April 1.

I had the pleasure of a phone conversation with Jodi Bluth today. She's the publisher of Animation Magazine. She reafirmed Animation Magazine's committment to our contests by providing a year subscription as part of the prize to our winners.

That includes contest winners who live outside the USA.

We're re-addressing and reorganizing the contests. There are a few people who have an Animation Magazine subscription coming to them. Thank you for your patience with us. We're going to get you lined up very soon. Any of our past winners who haven't received their complete prize package yet, it's on its way. Indulge us for a little while longer while we get on top of this.

Thanks and keep creating!

Sorry for the long delay in getting Contest #10 going. It should be posted soon.

Animation Magazine reconfirmed today that they will contribute a full year's subscription as part of the prize.
