Fellow starving artists, if you happen to live or work in Glendale, be VERY careful parking.

Glendale has a parking code where they can TOW YOUR CAR if is parked ANYWHERE for more than three days. "Anywhere" meaning even if you are parked in a regular parking area that is not restricted on those days. When you get the car from the impound lot, the city calls that car parked for 4 days an "abandoned vehicle."

My friend just picked up her car from the impound lot.... the damage? $90.00 for the tow, $83.50 for the "cost recovery", $30.00 PER CALENDAR DAY for storage at the impound lot (it was towed yesterday afternoon and she picked it up this morning, so thats TWO days, and oh yeah, $35.00 for the parking ticket, too. All this for parking on a residential street for 4 days, none of which were restricted parking days.

Total for parking your car in a legal parking spot anywhere in Glendale for over three days: $268.50 (a bigger car would have been more expensive)

I know this is a side topic, but it needs to be publicized... this is terribly expensive. Please, be careful, folks!

I'll bet dollars to doughnuts that whoever owns the house she parked in front of called the city to have her car removed. As a homeowner (a Glendale homeowner as it happens), it is annoying when someone leaves their car sitting in front of my house for days. I know I don't own the road in front of my house. I guess I'm just turning into a cranky old b@$t@rd.

By the way, I agree that the fees are outrageous... and I've never called the city to have anyone towed!

so instead of parking my car in front of your house... what if i just stood there, stareing at your front door for 3 days ?
Of course thrusting my hips while screaming.

I am confused, why would anyone leave their car for more than 3 days unless out of town and in Los Angeles, wouldn't you be more worried about it being stolen?
The fines are stupid, but if those are the rules, why not just follow them?
If you are only working there, then the car wouldn't be there that long, right?

I sold my car about 1 hour ago. this post was 1 of many motivational factors. Living in Chicago you don’t really need one anyways.

When I'm stocked up on groceries and don't have any meetings, I sometimes don't leave my place - and move my car - for four or five days in a row. A "3-day parking penalty" would probably trip me up a few times because I always forget stuff like that.

Has anyone ever bought one of those "boots" the pigs use and put it on his own car? It would make it difficult to tow. Maybe four boots would be better. Or just take the wheels off. Or put a cardboard sign in the rear window that says CAUTION: IMPROVISED EXPLOSIVE DEVICE INSIDE. HAVE A NICE DAY.

*sigh*

Parking in Burbank is just as bad. Try going to the post office off Hollywood Way during peak hours! Finding a spot is like winning the lottery. [Gary]

Be even more careful walking in Glendale (or anywhere).

Some years back near the Galleria, a car decided to move into the space occupied by my left knee while I was walking in a crosswalk (on green).

It was moving at slow speed- no permanent damage.

Since that day, I keep a close eye out and be ready to move away from drivers at intersections, etc. that you'd expect not to randomly plow into you.

BTW,... the reason she left her car there for more than three days was because she often walks to work- (its a mile and a half.)

Guess she learned her lesson.
