Submitted to us by a viewer. It's animation related but its also asking for free submissions. We like to post as many of these things as we can and let our members weigh it.

"RE: Animators for children's music animation

Dear Animators,

My organization, Stichting Culturele Droomwevers is working on a project of book with art and music animations: The Euro ABC book and DVD with 26 singers and 26 illustrators: one singer and one artist from each E.U. country. Also 26 animators!

We are searching for artists to take part in our project by making an animation for one of the songs. This project includes many participants from around the world: artists, singers, musicians and filmmakers. At present we have not received subsidy. This is pro bono work. The income from the sold DVD's will be divided among the participating artists.

Each song is different in character and style: blues, classical, musical, reggae, opera, melodrama, cabaret, etc.

Our website is: www. droomwevers. nl

Quite a few of our music animations can be found on youtube.
http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=droomwevers&search_type=&aq=f

You can hear several of the EURO songs and see some of the illustrations
on: http://www.droomwevers.nl/viewer/index.html

Click on the EUro ABC book and then on one of the letters to get an impression of the song. The animation style does not have to be in the style of the book illustration.
Our first CD is recently published: Dromen door Nederland (Dreaming around Holland). The structure for the whole cycle is the limerick form. I am inspired by Edward Lear. The Euro songs will be sung in English.

Our organization has managed to proceed with its creations despite very little support from sponsors. We are hoping that the Euro project will receive international recognition. Each participant will receive a copy of the book and the DVD once they have been made. we hope to begin the animation project in January 2010 and complete it by January 2011. For more information feel free to contact me. If interested I will send you the complete song or songs to review. Thank you very much for your consideration. I look forward to hearing your reaction.

With kind regards,
Henry Muldrow

These types of posts have become sadly unremarkable. I see several a day. The overwhelming majority of the projects posted with these unrealistic budgetary expectations are never reported as finished. Excerpts from examples I saw earlier, just from 2/11/2010:
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
3 min 5 second animation needed for music video
Budget: Less than $500
Proposals Received: 16 (10 declined)

Please find enclosed a narrative story board for more information.

Please note that we are now looking for a 3D animation
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
260 simple drawings, 1 easy animation
Budget: Less than $500

I am presently designing a simple iphone app. i am looking for 260 simple stylised drawings of common everyday objects and items in 14 different categories.

I'm on a really tight budget for this and i don't need anything too pricey

I also need a simple transition animation to go between the images, i imagine something like a fizz or lots of bubbles, no longer than 3 seconds. must be compatible with iphone
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
3 Minute (approximate) cartoon video for website
Budget: Less than $500

HI! We have a great idea for a short video that will lay out all of the advantages of our main product in a simple, yet entertaining video

(about ten pages of specifications here)

We'd like to have it done by March 1 if at all possible.
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
Computer Animation
Budget: Less than $500

I'm looking for someone talented and creative to create a a short video (3-6 minutes each) from a series of photographs, using technology to insert a "virtual guide" into the video.

I would like to transform a series of 5-10 photos to computer generated images and be able to insert a "virtual tour guide" of sorts into the images to lead viewers through the pictures.
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

There are hundreds more just like these and worse, posted in a never-ending stream of parsimony and/or ignorance.

I did move this to the Business Forum earlier as an announcement since it was business related, but without the comments here.

Here's a beautiful job "offer" I just encountered:

These cartoons will be in a video format (I assume MPEG format, or whatever is the most common video format to be played on websites). I can give you the stories and you will have to be creative by making a cartoon out of it. So for example, if I give Rapunzel, you will have to add wording, scripts, or whatever to make the cartoon flow consistently with the actual story. I would like them to be more than 5 minutes each.

My budget for this project is very tight. Given the economy, I can only afford so much. My ideal goal is to pay $50 for 50 to 100 cartoons. Now, whoever bids $50 for 100 cartoons is really good. However, go ahead and bid and I'll see what you have to offer. I may pay a little more depending on the services. But my budget is still tight and I'm leaning to smaller amounts.

LMAO! What is that called when people do this? Work for a fraction of your normal rate/worth?
Is it Arrogance?

I wonder if these people do this with everyone they encounter.

I should try that with the bartender.. I want 5-10 drinks.. and my ultimate goal is to pay $5 for all of them... but if they get me really drunk, I can pay as much as $10

or next time I have a meal.. I see that the bill is $17.. but my budget is $5.. tell you what.. I give you $5 and a hearty recommendation your chef can put on his resume.

I'm looking for a doctor to do a heart transplant.. can give you $100.. and you can use the photos of the operation in your portfolio.

Oh s**t Gary, you got me on a roll here!

Looking for someone to replace my entire transmission . . . got $100 max & I'll recommend you on Yelp.com!

Looking to borrow someone's boat for a day for a music video shoot . . . got $80 but will give you a screen credit + perform "The Robot" up to ten times . . .

If just us kept riffing on these offers, this topic would be longer than the one about the Guild's antics . . .

Received communication today concerning this topic, with a request to post a reply.

Here it is.

..........................

I would like to reply to everyone who thought this submission was simply a begging letter. Frankly it is somewhat saddening to find only cynical money-orienated replies, but I guess these are the sort of people who don't belong in such a project anyway.

Droomwevers is an entirely VOLUNTARY non-profit organisation with the aim of introducing children to the audio visual world (ie music, pictures and words). We exist off the ever meagre scraps from commercial and governmental grants, yet despite very limited funding we have produced 2 DVDs (with another in the pipeline). This year we will try to promote these so that as many people as possible can enjoy the excellent work produced (without payment) by some brilliant animators. Who knows, there may even be some money coming back to them. Especially if you purchase one of our DVDs!

Why would so many artists join our project? It involves, after all, lots of work. Firstly some animators share our vision and are happy to have their work seen in the big world. Indeed 2 DVDs have been taken up by a Dutch TV station and shown over 500 times. I wonder how many of the letterwriters can claim this honour?

Secondly our organization produces quality products which many artists find it an honour to be involved in, especially as we are producing educative children's books. Also we provide a platform for animators to experiment and improve their techniques and they know that their work WILL be seen. There have been several animators who have thanked us for giving their careers a kick start.

Of course if you wish to spend your life criticizing and not participating, feel free...
