With just under 2 weeks left before our 53rd consecutive semester, the 10th anniversary of the Academy is getting off to a great start with a bumper crop of new students and signups continuing to come in. A mix of beginers, students from other schools, artists new to town, students getting back into their art education and working professionals expanding their skill level.

With no advertising other than an occasional mention like this here on the AN forums, the word of mouth and strong studio referrals have kept this going and growing.

Looking forward to another good turnout starting January 8, 2008.

Thanks, best wishes to all and Keep Creating.

Congratulations!!!!

I have had great personal experiences and growth because of The Animation Academy. This school is a blessing and a great model that people don't have to
kill themselves financially to learn.

Hello Charles,
do you guys have a Flash class at the Animation Academy?
I'm going to be moving to LA in February and I need a class to motivate me to complete my film. If there is a directed study type film making class at your school, please advise. I can't seem to find what I need on the website. Perhaps I am lost?

Lemmeno!

Soliel, if you bring a laptop with Flash and a tablet for drawing input we can work with you. We use Flash for teaching our Character Animation class as long as the student is set up for it. The pre-requisite is Character Design I, but your work is strong enough to go directly to Flash if you were with us.

We can also work with students who want to learn the basics of Photoshop as an illustrative tool, as long as they have a laptop with the software and an input device such as a Wacom tablet.

This coming semester we will also have wireless Internet available for students with laptops.

There's a big group of new students entering the program for the new semester that starts next week.

For friends who follow the school, the new semester got under way last night, there was a great turnout. Biggest group of new students since we started having sessions at the Realtors Hall 3 years ago. Fitting start to the 11th year.

Our first guest speaker of the year was someone very much distinguished in the animation industry. Tad Stones took time to stop by and talk with our students. An incredible guest, he spoke at length about his experiences in animation. An amazing career spanning the Disney Studios through more than 3 decades.

 -

Tad's career from his time with Disney's training program in its earliest days through recent history and all the projects and shows he's developed captivated our group. Afterwards, students gathered round to speak with him personally.

 -

Here's Tad being thanked by a couple of Academy students who were grateful for his visit and inspired by his talk.

 -

The IMDb database gives a glimpse into Tad's extensive and intriguing career.

A big thanks going out to you Tad, it was great having you with us. You left a huge impression on everyone. Thanks for the generosity of your time and best of luck to you.

We're tentatively scheduling our next speaker for this semester on February 12. When the final word comes in I'll announce who it will be.

It was an excellent occasion at the last session of the Academy as we celebrated 2 surpise guest speakers in addition to our scheduled guest, Walter Gatus.

We had the pleasure of a visit from Snakebite, (third from the left) as well as Andres Alvarez (next to Snakebite on the right). Andres is a former student of the Academy who went on to become an instructor with us and then founded his own school, The Animation Design Center in Torrance, California, which is in the South Bay area of Los Angeles.

Here they are in the company of a few of our admiring group.

 -

Walter Gatus, another former student who made it big in the animation biz, stopped by to share his portfolio and recent work he's been doing as a character designer on the upcoming series "The Spectacular Spiderman" scheduled to air next month from Sony TV Animation. Walter is in the dark blue shirt to the left of the table.

 -

The action at the Academy as Walter spends extra time with a group of students while others are channeling their inspiration by busting out their own artwork.

 -

Andres Alvarez topped off the evening with a showing of his own, a collection of his work and those of his students from the Animation Design Center. He's the guy with the big smile on the left.

 -

It's been an exceptional and memorable semester these past few weeks as we enjoyed the 10th anniversary of the school and a big turnout in students and creative activity. Thanks to everyone who's been a part of it. The next semester, 11.2 will begin March 4. Hope to see you there.

I was already late to my meeting as it was, though. it was hard to leave.

thanks for the warm welcome as usual!

the young cat next to me in the green hoodie, I forget his name, is only 15 years old with mad potential. I told his pop to expose him to business, law and marketing education cuz he's gonna be a power house if he sticks to it.
