Parker and Stone Ad Sharing Deal with Viacom
That's a New York Times link. Hopefully it works for everyone. If not, someone may want to put up links to other sites with the same story.
In summary, last Friday the two creators of South Park and Viacom worked out a deal that allows the two guys to net more money from South Park. In turn, there will be an attempt to promote the show on the web and try to get ad revenue from clips or entire episodes being on-line. It sound like there's going to be a South Park portal of sorts. So they'll be promoting the show via ad supported, on-line content.
It is best to read it because there's more to it than my slapdash summation.
Again, if the link doesn't work, someone should put up one which does.
A quote from the article:
“The idea that we’re getting a little piece of it back — and in five years we’ll probably be going to court and fighting about it — but in ownership terms, that’s kind of an amazing thing,” [Matt Stone] said. “People always ask us, ‘You own it, right? No? Why’d you sign that deal?’ And I have to say, ‘Because I was sleeping on my friend’s couch.’ ”
