It seems Warner Bros picked up a option for a live action Thundercats movie. The idea of animated series has been knocked around (I was actually tapped to be a director on one of the attempts that fell by the wayside). This will make a lot of TCats fans happy, but time will tell if it ever makes it to the big screen. If it does, maybe the animate series will rise again.

P.S. - I worked on the original Rankin/Bass series. I have of the art on my website.

I have always been a fan of the original series... so some in ways I had hoped for a movie version, since hollywood seems to be in the mind-set of remakes and live-action movies based on everything We, (us 25-40 year olds), cherished as a kid.
I think if they can get someone like Rick Baker to do the makeup, they could have some really believable characters.... assuming they cast some good actors as well.
They are planning a new movie of Knight Rider, Magnum PI, and a CG film of the smurfs as well. If each of these are popular films, it'll likely give the greenlight to 'Airwolf', 'Street Hawk', 'Automan', 'Riptide', 'Simon and Simon' and a CG 'Snorks' film too.
Ooops... I hope I didn't just give them ideas! (although some of those might be cool.)

I actually almost hope that they don't do a Thundercats movie, I dont want someone like Micheal Bay to come along a mess it up.
I've talked to a number of Warner Bros artists who tell me that the studio has been trying to do a new animated series for years. Many artists, Sean "Cheeks" Galloway along with others has taken passes at designing them, but nothing has taken yet. "Developmental Hell" I guess, excuse the french.

Here's Sean Galloway Thundercats I found.

The artist that really got the development ball rolling was Joaquim Dos Santos, later a director on the Justice League. He was a big fan of the original and did a pitch package of redesigns, which I thought was very good. That got the execs interested in developing the Thundercats. This was just as the new Thundercats comics were coming out from DC Comics (part of Warner Bros). At last count, I think there's been about 6 to 8 different bibles done. Mark Waid did the one I was talked to about o working on. The talented Dwayne McDuffie did another, and so on.
Here a funny, behind the scene bit, you'll love. When Warner execs decided they like the Thundercats they called Rankin/ Bass to see who had own the rights. After a long pause, mostly to control his laugher, a producer friend of mine informed them, they (WB) owned the Thundercats since 1993, when Warners Bros bought Lorimar Telepicture (I was still at R/B when that sale happened). Apparently no one have check their inventory before calling R/B. Sometimes, it makes you wonder...about big companies?

First in line. I was born in 73, so thundercats came along at exactly the right time. I loved it. My kids have no idea who Mumm-Ra is, aside from the voice I annoy them with.

Hey, any show that uses a fetish for sniffing girl's bicycle seats to name a character can't be all bad...

Snakebite, as far as I know, Peter Chung don't do the opening.
It was the talent crew at the Japanese studio Pacific Animation Company under the direction of Masaki Iizuka, president. (See the linked picture). That studio later became Disney Japan, and did a lot of the Disney series, including "Gargoyles", which I also work on. When I came on as a director, I visited the Toyko studio and the assistant who showed me along said she knew my name from her working on Thundercats, as did a lot the crew. They were, and are, a very talented bunch. Thundercat pic
