Greetings everybody and welcome back to our contest forum. We've got things set up once again to continue so let's commence to begin to get ready to launch forthwith.
The theme this time around is: "Kickin' it Old School!"
The prize for this contest is $100. It's important that you have a Paypal account, so if you don't already have one please make preparations. Additionally the good folks with Animation Magazine are offering a free one year subscription to their magazine for the winner.

Rules for Participation:
- The contests are open for any AnimationNation.com member who has subscribed to the Independant Economy. The money raised through these $15 subscriptions is applied directly to the $100 cash prizes that are awarded to the contest winners as well as to fund other community activities. If you would like to participate in the contest but are unable to pay the $15 subscription fee then you are encouraged to write to us and request the usage of one of the extra contributed memberships that people have paid for above and beyond their own subscriptions. Requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis but it is important that you have participated on the message board for awhile before a request is made so that we're both familiar with who you are and that we know you're not just requesting a contributed membership for the contest alone. We appreciate your consideration in this matter.
- If the winner is subscribed to the IE via a contributed membership then their subscription will be upgraded to a full account and their contributed membership will be made available to other members. This will reduce the prize money by $15 and will allow other people the same opportunity to participate as they did.
- Contest winners will be decided upon by a popular vote amongst registered members of AnimationNation.com. Judging is based on the entrant's ability to best convey the given theme for the contest. There will be 1 vote available for every 6 submissions so if we recieve, say, 9 entries you'll get to vote twice for your favorites.
- We will not open the voting until we receive at least four entries. We really want to encourage a *competition* for the prize.
![[Yes]](graemlins/yes.gif) - Contest submissions can be in any format that is viewable via a web browser. In order to be bandwidth-friendly we will resize all entries to fit within a 640x480 pixel size and host them on our official server. Your original entry can be any size you want and will be also be hosted on our server and viewable by clicking the bandwidth-friendly version displayed on the entry page. You are welcome and encouraged to submit entries that aren't simply bitmap images but full video clips, or Flash animations, etc., but be aware that this may potentially introduce difficulties in people's browsers or download times.
- Only one entry per person, please.
Send your entries to me at BReynolds6 AT comcast DOT net and please be sure that your email originates from the same address that you subscribed to the Independant Economy with. Failure to do so will delay our ability to confirm your eligibility to participate.
If you have any questions just let me know and I'll do my best to respond promptly.
Submissions can begin immediately with the deadline for final submissions being midnight, Sunday, November 6th. That gives you three weeks to put your ideas to work. Voting will take place for the following week with the winner being revealed midnight Sunday November 13th.

I can't believe this competition! Word!
Someone's been watching the N'Synch epsiode of the Simpsons.
quote: N'Sync: Y'know, we've had a lot of fun tonight at the expense of the U.S. Navy! / But they're out there every day protecting us from Godzilla / And don't forget pirates / And Jellyfish / Those wackin vertebraes will sting you, old school! / So check out the Navy for a two or four year hitch! / We signed J.C. up yesterday! J.C.: Wha.... NOOOOOOO!

Damn it, guys...I don't think I'm going to be able to make this one in time after all. Hurricane Wilma ate up a whole week of my time (no electricity for 7 days) and so a week isn't enough time for what I wanted to do. I had a killer idea that I was dying to execute. I'm gonna do it anyway, but I won't make it in time for the contest. Good luck to all the entries

If you're serious about entering and you need more time, I'm sure Brian will accomodate you. Would like to see your entry.
There are more than few members who ponied up their $15 and wound up winning $100. There's a couple who had contributed memberships in the IE and won.
Find a little time to do something. Never know what could happen.
The community does the voting.

You're right Charles. You never know. Because of the hurricane and no light situation though, we're backed up in our studio and so we're gonna have to pull really long hours during the next couple of weeks to come....only allowing me the weekends to work on my personal projects. But you know what, I really am interested in this contest and so I will take this weekend to do a simplified version of what I really wanted to do...which probably means no BG, just character designs. I'll try my best to get it in on time. Thanks!

Hey Charles, I emailed Brian late last week...perhaps on Thursday or Friday...but I didn't get a response. It's cool...it was late in the week. I went ahead and assumed that I had the same deadline as everyone else and so I submitted something just a few minutes ago. It's not as elaborate of an idea as I had originally planned, but I think people will dig it.
(phew) I almost didn't make it too. The lights went out in my house again today (after having it back for the past week) but they came back a couple of hours later. I was getting nervous because I worked on this drawing all day yesterday and the last thing I needed was to not be able to send my file at the last minute.
Anyway, I hope at least 4 people entered the competition. I won't be TOO upset if we don't have enough entries though. This was a REALLY fun theme...a pleasure to work on. I think the themes make a difference in bringing people into these things.
See you around the board,
Jose AKA MOJO

Hey there Jose. I am TERRIBLY sorry for not getting back to you... I've been absolutely pulled every which way for the past week as I've tried to juggle all the obligations I've gotten myself into and this just slipped past me.
For the record, you're the only person who has entered, and for that I apologize if it meant that you pushed overly hard. I may get some more entries in the next day, but for the time being we're still looking for three more submissions.
Again, my sincere apologies...

Hey it's alright, Brian. Like I said, it was late in the week...I didn't give enough time's notice.
It sucks that I'm the only one so far that has submitted. I was very aware of the possibilities of not having enough people enter the competition though. Honestly I think even just the minimum (4) is too small of an amount. I did work hard this weekend to get that piece done but I really don't mind it. There is no way I would have ever gotton that done without busting my ass anyway. I don't have time during the week.
It was a blast doing it though, so thanks for the contest.

You should submit the sketch...or at least post it up on the gallery. I'd like to see what other people had in mind at least.

Alright so it's getting pretty obvious that there won't be any more entries for this one It's amazing how a board with SO many talented artist can have such a bad turnout for something like this. I'm only complaining because I actually entered this time around. I'm just as guilty of not entering past competitions....but I'm going to try and change that. I'm going to try my hardest to enter from now on.
How often do we have competitions around here? I'm ready for the next I hope it'll be as much fun as the last in subject matter. Maybe we can manage to get more people for the next one, huh guys?

I was pretty gung ho about it, but after kicking the idea around for over a week with one barely recognizable sketch, I just realised that I had a difficult time also wrapping my head around this particular concept.

...uhhhh I don't believe that for a second. I just saw your site, dude...you have more than enough talent and creativity to wrap around 10 concepts...but I guess we all have our blocks at some point. It would've been great to see what you would have done. I hope to see you enter the next one.

Be patient and hang in there, guys. We'll be fielding AN Contest 11 soon.

Jeff,
They'll post the entries once there's a sufficient amount to vote on (minimum 4)...so send something in...we'll be only ONE away! The deadline already past...about 3 or 4 weeks ago...but since not enough people submitted, they are still accepting. You should do whatever comes to mind when you think of 'Kicking It Old School'. I guess interpretation is left up to you. Please submit something. Come on, it's not like the competition is stiff...there's only 2 of us so far, for god's sake.

If you're having any problems you should email Brian, the moderator, at that email.
(Sorry for editing your post, I just want to avoid having my email address listed in a manner that could be picked up by spammers. Thanks!) [ November 27, 2005, 09:15 PM: Message edited by: the Moderator ]

We've been planning some changes in this contest. We're going to spread the prizes out to the first, second and third place winners.
The first place prize will be $100. The second, a year's subscription to Animation Magazine. The third, a year's subscription to Shane Glines' CartoonRetro site.
Brian and I have discussed this and we're working on arranging a 4th place prize as well. Brian will follow up with this soon.
I'd like to thank Shane for his generosity. It's going to make our contests a lot more fun.

Whoa! All those prizes kick ass! LOL. At first I thought that the 3rd place prize was the best and then I thought, "duh, if I were to win $100 then I can just buy a subscription to Shane's Cartoon Retro AND maybe have enough for the Animation magazine subscription". That's great Charles. You guys are awesome.
...so where is entry #4?
At this point it's not even about the possibility of winning anything...I just want this chapter of my life to be over .
Perhaps our new pro member, Mr. MAC, can help us out with that. I'm sure he can take first with just a few swooshes of his pencil.
