So smart, they can see you as food. Hence the last wild grizzly bear in California was killed nearly a century ago even though we use it on our state flag as a symbol.
Anyone ever backpack through grizzly country without a gun or pepper spray? Yellowstone in the fall of 94 here. Sucks to think about being eaten as you tussle in your sleeping bag at 4:00 A.M. when something of weight walks by your camp.
Somehow I think everyone should experience something like that. Because whether or not you know it, you are always on a fundamental level at the mercy of your environment. Rare as it is, I can't think of anything outside the realization that you may actually be eaten in a situation that brings that home.
