Just got a call from Cindy from Animation-Ink that is heading this event. Looks like some huge opportunities coming from this event and soon as I finish jawin' with her I'll post some news here.
A convention like this could turn out to be a major win for animation, comics, education, business for this region considering it's close proximity to Hollywood. Conventions are growing by leaps and bounds every year and this month for animation/comics get togethers is big. You've got AN night, Jerry Beck's Cartoon Dump, and now this Rockncomiccon all covering five straight days of fun and entertainment this month.
No telling what can shake from this tree.

Okay, just had a lengthy phone call with Cyndi Bohonovsky who is running this convention.
She says she's looking for talent to show up, get booths and tables and sell your stuff. The prices are very cheap compared with what you would pay for the San Diego Con.
She's also looking for people to help out at the convention. Lots going on. Hit her up at her website linked to above.
She's also looking for more sponsors as well.

I'll be there all three days helping out. Got a few hundred flyers copied and delivered to them. The students of Cal State Northridge are going to promote this through the Animation Students League and also through the efforts of individual students in the animation deaprtment.
Heard from Cyndy and I'd like to pass along that both the Animation Guild and ASIFA-Hollywood have turned down her requests to help promote the con.
But Animation Magazine is onboard and that's good to know. I think AWN.com is going to help pomote it as well. I'll know more about that aspect of it soon.

Good form there Charles!
Well the folks that won't help promote it will wish they had. I've got all the major news services, radio programs and a bunch of politicians interested because the event will boost the economy and be historic at the same time.
Wish I had known about it far earlier as I could have done more.

btw, you'll hear about the convention on tonight's Coast to Coast AM show with George Noory. I'm booking Richard C. Hoagland to do a news breaking lecture about Mars for the convention and he'll discuss the convention tonight and during the month and during the convention. So that's like 100 million people being hipped to the convention over the next several weeks.
Not bad for a first start.
Now on to chat with pals at Gannett News Service and USA Today.

I spoke with Cyndy this afternoon and she's making progress. She mentioned how much you're helping her Greg. Too bad the rest of the animation industry isn't getting behind this, but at least there's Animation Magazine. They're attitude free and great to work with.
Let's make it happen.

I noticed that tomorrow (May 7th) is the last day for early registration. One quick question: on the site, I can see the dates, but what are the hours of operation for the main exhibit hall?

Oh there'll be mention of AN along the line. Cyndi has Mr. Hoagland who will be mentioning the events all month on Coast to Coast AM as well as his numerous other radio appearances with his breaking news about Mars. I asked Cyndi to put up a link to AN on her site too.
All the main news services know about Cyndi and about Bronnie Barry with the MPTF as news hit that George Clooney, Brad Pitt, and Matt Damon are now on board to support that cause. It's really been an amazing couple of days round these parts.
You have to understand Coast to Coast AM is one of the biggest radio programs ever. So much breaking news, entertainment, humor, science has been broken on that show. Mr. Hoagland is an integral part of that empire and he had asked me about comics/sci-fi conventions a few months ago and lo and behold it just fell into his lap. Just what he wanted to spread his latest findings.
Charles, I'm sure Cyndi will be giving you and AN phat carte blanche for whatever so I'm looking forward to hearing about that! Maybe you guys should set up for a live blogcast or something.
If you have any panel ideas let her know. I'd like to see a panel about animation, independent arts etc.

I'll be conducting a one man panel for character design. I'm available as a speaker for any other panel you'd like to put together if you're so inclined, and I hope you are. If you want to register a panel and would like a moderator I'd be willing to do that.
We're going to have a table for the Academy. Cyndy tells me it'll be a 10 footer.
I'll be available all three days for portfolio reviews.

Are they really? Are they Paul? A month ago? They posted a notice a month ago? Where's the link to AN on CartoonBrew? If these guys were genuinely interested in doing something to promote goodwill in the industry and artists coming together and getting along in spite of our differences, not to mention helping to launch a local con that we can call our own, they'd of dropped their attitudes a long time ago.
At least CB's done more than the Guild and ASIFA-Hollywood.
This is going to be successful with or without them. The animation world can function without the attitude club. It can grow and prosper in spite of them.
This is going to be a fun event and I'm really looking forward to it. I'm anxious to meet friends and make new ones.

I got some awesome news this morning regarding this convention!
It'll be up on their website soon.
All I can say is things are really looking up for Cyndi and her project here.
Charles, the venue you posted will be updated. There are tons more talent at the show than you've listed so far. I still have a booth and panel open for free and I may donate it to a worthy cause.
