Say ANers, chime in and share what's happening with you as far as your creative projects are going.

Are you working in a studio, working in art someway, going to school, doing something else or just hanging out?

I'll get it going.

After self publishing my first book "Controlling Illusion" in 2008, I found the experience of authoring and the ongoing success of the book to be very satisfying. Soon after I started prep work on a second book. I scanned several hundred images lying around from different things I've done and began writing. Got distracted from it by other things, but am back on it. If I stay productive I think I can have it completed and ready for market by the end of the year.

I'm making steady progress with the development of my second book, and I'm enthusiastic about the way it's coming together. Goes to show guys that it pays off to hold onto as much of your original artwork as you can along with publishing rights to it. That way down the line you'll have plenty of inventory. It's alot easier to scan existing artwork and build a book around it as opposed to having to come up with all the artwork in the first place.

If you're doing something special on your own, or whatever you're involved with that's creatively exciting you let us know.

Oh man- this topic was started four days ago and no one responded. Maybe people can't say, don't want to, or it slipped their mind.

'Finally got Controlling Illusion, and am enjoying the read & art. Hope the 2nd book goes well!

I've been doing BG/prop/character design & animation on Flash games- I wish I could show more of what's in production, but better not- yet.

If anyone's hasn't seen the existing five games & Zazzle store, they're all here:

I was out of town working the Emerald City Comic con last minute. A friend of mine let me share his table since I originally had no plans and connected me with some nice new folk. I didn't go for the show so much as to hustle and make new connections...although the show was a bonus, lots of fun, killer line up of artists, downtown Seattle is the bombdigity and even the con food is fresh. Healthy selection as well. I recommend everyone checking it out if they can.

I'm also finishing up some illustration work for Sideshow Collectibles...Lining up other comic book work with a handful of different artists, which will unfold within the next year. gotta plan ahead. On page 120 of my visual memoir book of the last 13 years...as well as personal development. Conceptualizing new AnimationNation stuff, and organizing AN Night's events...not to mention planning out more conventions..and I still want to do a photoshop seminar....come to think of it, I still have a list in addition to all of this. I need to sleep less...and I really like sleep...but really, I'm realizing..I need to sleep less. I got lots on my plate. It's all doable though. mind over matter..

I'm working on freelance design/illustration work, and our own indie studio project Hackberry Hollow. Incidentally next Tuesday is going to be our 1-year anniversary of the blog, which is where where we post concept art for the project while we are in pre-production (we haven't posted much character designs yet, still waiting for them to be awesome which is why I'm taking character design classes at The Animation Academy). I'll definitely be talking more about that project on the forums as things get further along. We are getting closer each day and are really hoping we can launch the webcomic later this year.

Puricute is currently having a jupey krusho contest where folks can win some of my loot.

Got a booth at unique los angeles for next month to showcase some new stationery, accessories, books etc.

Otherwise working on an art book and personal properties to release later in the year along with trying to take as many sculpting/molding/casting classes as I can find.

O. Also workin' on a huge chunk of a chocolate Easter bunny that I shouldn't have bought in the first place. Cursed cuteness...

That's cool. You have a brand happening!

On Thursday evening I started laying out the pages for my second book. As of this writing early Monday morning I've done the layout for 92 pages. And I took Saturday off to do other things.

My first book Controlling Illusion has 136 pages, so I did more than 2/3's the volume of that book in about 3 working days. Much of the writing is already done from before. My second book is well on its way. Man! If I can keep up this productivity I may be able to get a third one out before the year's over. Maybe even four.

Once you get experience from the first one, the follow ups come much easier.

Right now I'm working on a cute little feature in Cerdanyola, 20 minutes from Barcelona, Spain.
Nice to not have to do realistic, complex animation for a change...

The page count on my book is up to 111. Showed some of the pages to a group of students last night at CSUN after class and it was very well received. Feeling good about it.

Haven't had much of chance to work on my next book lately, but I've been able to get back to it today. Along with what I've was able to get done since posting last, happy to report that I passed the 136 page count for Controlling Illusion. I'm at 137 pages and still going.

Basically, I just finished "Clash of the Titans" and am looking for more compositing work...

I'm also booked in again this year as an artist at the "Autumn Lights LA 10" festival this fall in LA, so I'm working on that.

As an artist, I'm using that time and effort to learn Nuke & Maya, and I showed my first Nuke piece at the Cannibal Flower show last Saturday. I'll post a link in the gallery when that series of 3D Stereo photos goes up on my site soon...

Meanwhile I look for the next good compositing gig... With my new reel & resume site StevenJBrooks.com

That was cool CIA, having you at the last AN Night fresh off of Clash of the Titans.

Still working on my next book as much as I can. Lost count of how many pages I'm up to. It was around 150 last time I checked and there's been more since. Made enough progress with the text that I feel comfortable going to the next step. Designing the front and back cover, then going page by page and putting it all together.

I dig authoring and wouldn't mind doing this on a regular basis. With the experience I gained from Controlling Illusion and with this next one, I may be able to frequently publish. Meanwhile, taking it one at a time.

Hi Everyone,

Looks like you're all keeping busy... good stuff!

My day job on "Stoked" takes up a lot of my time, but I'm back to working on my "Newt and John" webcomic series. I had taken quite a long break from it... over a year.

Since most of my regular comic viewers thought the series was over, I decided to poke fun at that with the first new comic "teaser" episode simply called "Jump the Shark".

You can view it here:

Newt and John - "Jump the Shark"

The commentary below the comic explains what "Jump the Shark" means, for those who don't know.

Anyways, that was a few weeks ago. Then I couldn't let another "April Fools Day" (Happy 4.1 AnimationNation day!) pass without making a prank episode.

You can view it here:

Newt and John - "April Fools Day"

I also decided to transcibe this episode as a 'screenplay', so the entire story can be enjoyed by the visually impaired using text-to-speech readers. I'll be adding others in this format in the future.

I have been working on many new episodes in my spare time. I'm ahead of the updates, so now I plan to keep adding new full-page episodes every Monday.

Here's the most recent:

Newt and Jonn - "MUGBOT"

Eventually, after many more episodes, I plan to release them all as a graphic novel and downloadable e-book.

I'm also working on a storybook and animation project for my "Jinx the Black Cat" character. I talk about that in detail in my blog.

Working full time, and the long commute every day, It feels good to feel motivated and inspired again... and still enjoy everything else that's good in life.

I hope you're all feeling that way too. [Smile]

Cheers,

--------------------
Mike

Finished the cover art for the book I'm putting together. Now it's on to finalizing the pages and putting it all in chapters. That's a pretty good pace, it's been 4 weeks and 3 days on the push to get to this point.

I'm neck deep in my indie game-development, and things couldn't be better [Smile] I'm also on the verge of revealing some awesome news. All in all this has been an excellent year for me, and I'm thankful.

Hello

Our company, HoBSoft, has just finished our work on the animated 2D Feature film Chico & Rita.

See this thread here on AN for some links.

We set up the infrastructure for automated deliveries from the following studios

Estudio Mariscal (Main studio, Layouts, Compositing and Direction + others, Spain)
Kecskemét Film (Cleanup, Kecskemét-Hungary)
Lightstar Studios (Animation, Cleanup, Sao Paolo-Brazil)
Animagic (Animation, Cleanup, Madrid-Spain)
Jet Media (Animation and some Cleanup, Riga-Latvia)
Magic Light Pictures (Ink and Paint, Douglas-Isle of Man)
HolyCow Animation (Animation, Cleanup, Ink and Paint, Manilla-Phillipines)

It was drawn on paper and line-tested, hi-res scanned and colored in ToonBoom Harmony.

The project was made with automatic exchange of ToonBoom Harmony projects between the studios, including Color Palettes. Besides that automatic rendering of Harmony scenes in the central studio and automatic update of several Final Cut Pro projects and media files in different studios.

We are now working on a big-ish 3D movie in Europe. I am not yet allowed to divulge more details, but I can say that one of the things we have developed is an automatic Nuke script builder. In general it builds, at the last minute (to get the latest duration changes), a compositing script with all the right operators/filters and footage in place.
Like that we now (well when they are needed) have 1500 nuke scripts that all have the same general structure, all the correct output nodes (for the automatic rendering), and with a bit of dicipline a really good possibility to automatically update the standard operators in all the scripts later on, because now they are REALLY the same.

I just finished the update of the storyboard images extracted from the Animatic to use as reference in our online Production Management system where the director can make approvals from the comfort of his own home, the hotel or even the beach(if he can get network coverage there), or the studio. I am also preparing to put the scene dialog and directors notes in the system, so the relevant people can consult the online Storyboard.
Since this system is online I sometimes check the status of the production on my phone, restarting failed transfers (Yes it does happen :-) ), or delegating a set of scenes to another studio. It is kind'a cool to be able to delegate scenes from one side of the globe to the other, from the phone...

We are currently developing the concept of a "HoBSoft Studio in a box", for smaller studios (say 5-10 talented people in a remote place) that participates in bigger productions. The smallstudios often does not have the capacity to have a sysadmin that can take care of the file server, the workstations, the security, the backup, maintaining and updating software, licenses... Basically the idea is that you get a studio server/switch/everythingyouneed that you plug in to the power and the broadband connection. It will then act as router, firewall, ntp, dhcp,... , raid file server, HoBSoft server (taking care of transferring stuff and such), studio web access to the HoBSoft system, license and database server for selected software (example Harmony database/license....). And along with that workstations, with proper drawing stuff included. If some of this stuff stops working we will either fix it remotely, fix it with your help or send you a new one...

Anyway, better get back to work :-)

HC

I'm a student currently in academic hiatus. I left school so that I could grow as an artist and become more responsible, before applying and hopefully attending CalArts.

Right now I'm working on a Flash graphical adventure game. I hope to add in fully cinematic cutscenes and animation quality that's not commonplace in that field. Right now me and my partner are finishing the pre-production stage, so that's good.

By November I plan to get started on my ludicrous Bakshi inspired idea and began an independent feature film. It might sound like a pipe dream, but I'm going to try anyways!

Currently, I'm living in South Florida and working at a theme park design firm (small time) doing conceptuals for children's role-play parks, cartoon and caricature commissions (the most fun), freelance doing character design and some storyboards.

I also look forward to doing more of my personal comics.

Happily, I can say I'm busy.
