The title of this topic is a quote from an email I received yesterday from someone I know and work with who's tied into food product marketing and is moving into the financing aspects of entertainment.
Not long ago at all, in order to get someone to finance your project, you had to have key things lined up beforehand like a distribution agreement for example. Today, that isn't the case as much anymore. Because of the Internet, money people are looking at the value of the project itself without necessarily requiring distribution as a requisite for investing. Consider the animated project "Jammies" that Tyree Dillihay is currently working on. It was funded without any previous committment to distribution. The investors felt strongly enough in the project to fund it straight away, confident they'll get distribution for the project when it's ready to go.

I'm sure Asif Satchu would agree with the title of this topic as well, being he's the co-founder of Media Rights Capital and all.

Lots of new models being established everyday. its a new frontier. Investors are realizing this. The big German investors like GMBH who have always funded big media projects in America are looking to the east for their new investments. thats huge. I really don't think people realize anything about GMBH, but them leaving to go East is a huge change for the western studios.
but because of that there will be a huge void that will need to be filled so investors who understand that chances need to be taken will take over and that they need to look at the new production companies, the smaller more efficient ones with better ideas then the usual suspects.
Good for Tyree! he's setting the new standard.

As newer models are created and the technology can support them there will probably be no stopping the collapse of the studios unless they jump on the same boat. There is the web site called Revver that started something a little different from normal video sites. What sets it apart from most other video hosting sites is its promise to pay the video/film maker 50 percent of a film’s ad revenue. What if a film maker has his own web site where he can keep 100% of the the ad revenue? This kind of business is heading toward profitability in a field where the artists often lose money. If this sort of thing takes off, becomes more common and is developed to a higher standard, the studios will really have something to worry about. The technology is already here. It just needs to be utilized and marketed to the point where it holds.
Then what happens when they can stream movies directly into a theater onto the large screen?

Now we're talkin'!
Yes, as the playing field has changed so have the strategies. So much has been stirred up that there's no telling what will settle to the bottom of the kettle and rise to the lid.
Getting a quality product to the public and getting a sound ROI is what most investors are concerned with. Those with a message with their money approach it differently.
People seem to be more cautious with their hard earned dollar and are looking for originality and quality. Just do a great job and the rest will fall in. There's tons of capital out there, just not in the traditional places. A fan of Charles' asked me the other day about why doesn't Charles have major funding to produce films and products. I say that day may change very soon.
