More than a few years ago, Eric Goldberg was developing a clever idea. It was a send up of a fairy tale. Disney, in their infinite wisdom turned thumbs down on the project. Who would pay good money to see a satirical fairy tale?
Apparently, Jeffrey Katzenberg thought somebody would -- and the rest is history.
Other than the critters being frogs, there's really no connection.
