Has anyone used the VisTablet Direct Touch Screen 22" tablet ?

It looks similar to a Wacom Cintiq 21" .

I have an animation student who is thinking of buying one and asked me what I thought about the VisTablets , but I have no experience using them. I use Wacom Intous and Wacom Cintiq and am very happy with the quality of the Wacom tablets .

Any feedback on the VisTablet would be appreciated.
Thumbs up or thumbs down ?

Thanks.

I had some feedback on the VisTablet's from some users on another forum I frequent : the TVPaint User Forum. I was told that the Vistablets use Aiptek hardware. Many manufacturers use this hardware ( aiptek, pantagram, medion, waltop, vistablet, smoby, ... ) Aiptek drivers are very bad .

Reviews of VisTablet products:

http://www.amazon.com/review/R1VJRKOYMXEX98

Not encouraging.

But this review is more positive:

So , my inclination would be to stick with the Wacom products for now.

I found another review for a tablet that looks similar to the Vistablet , but is actually called a Visboard Tablet , but the photo looks almost identical to the Vistablet , so I don't know if they are the same product with different names or what ....

I should have mentioned that of the reviews linked to above are not reviews of the VisTablet Direct Touch Screen 22"
but are reviews of VisTablet's other tablets which are similar to the Wacom Intous tablet. I have not yet been able to find any actual reviews of the VisTablet 22" .

Only the last link I posted is a review of a tablet similar to the VisTablet 22" and I'm still not certain if this is the same product or not. (?) --

At any rate, whether it's called a VisTablet or a Visboard this Cintiq-like tablet has some differences from the Cintiq:
The pen is battery-operated, not like the battery-less wacom pen. The tablet itself does not have the Express Keys and Touchstrip controls along the edges like the Wacom tablets have. The tablet does not rotate 360 degrees like the Wacom Cintiq , although it might be possible to mount the VisTablet/Visboard on an LCD arm which has a rotating mount.

The one called "Visboard" (which looks identical to VisTablet) is actually marketed in the U.S. by a different company:

One big difference I noticed is that KDUSA says the "Visboard Tablet" only has Windows drivers .

Sounds like the Wacom is the best bet. Though I don't have a Cintiq I have been using Wacom tablets at work and home for the last nine years and have never had one quit or falter: they just seem to be very reliable.

i can't say i've heard of Visablet until now, but i'm happy that there seems to be another contender in the tablet arena. i love my cintiq, but i feel wacom is bleeding us dry with their monopoly in the market. some competition would be good to help drive prices down.

Since this topic was originally about the Cintiq-like 22" Vistablet Direct Touch Screen tablet I'm just curious about whether the VisTablet Direct Touch Screen 22" tablet is going to be available again ? On the VistTablet web site it's been marked as "Sold Out" for many months now and there is a notice saying "Look for our newest generation 22” and 15” touch screen monitors coming first quarter of 2009!!!"
https://www.vistablet.net/catalog/

The end of the first quarter of 2009 (April - May '09) has come and gone. It's almost the end of June now.

I'd seriously be interested in finding a retailer that has a 22" Vistablet Direct Touch available for demonstration purposes. I would love to try it out with Sketchbook Pro, ArtRage, TVPaint, or Photoshop to see how it feels to draw on it compared to a Cintiq , but it does not seem to be available anywhere. Does anyone have it in stock ? Will you be a Siggraph or Ottawa Animation Festival or someplace like that to demo the 22" Touch Screen ?

Hello,

The View 22"Wide-2nd Generation should be coming out soon! I'm sorry, we currently don't have an exact date yet, but we were hoping to have The View 22" W, 2nd Generation out by the end of the 2nd Quarter.

As soon as we get an offical date, we'll defiantly post it our website, as well as our other social networking sites: www.MySpace.com/VisTablet, www.YouTube.com/VisTabletUSA, www.facebook.com/VisTablet and www.Twitter.com/VisTablet
