Ugh.
Well at least I have the satisfaction of knowing that whoever planned this is going to lose a LOT of money. ![[Big Grin]](biggrin.gif)

This reminds me of a funny Flash cartoon i saw which had The Chipmunks in the gangster rap motif. Not exactly the greatest, but it had it's moments.

Although, i liked the 'Chipmunk' spoof on 'Mighty Mouse: The New Adventures' better.

I would suggest speeding up an Eminem album to see what they might sound like, but given the man's already high-pitched voice, we could end up with the first rap music that can only be heard by dogs.
And would we do something that cruel to puppies?

Okay, I've had it. I'm gonna start a movement called 'Animation Characters Integrity Society' and we'll pitch a fit when beloved animation characters are altered beyond the point of recognition.
What's next, they're gonna remake Bullwinkle and Rocky but make Bullwinkle a squirrel and Rocky a moose?

Wow. Hip hoppy trendy gangstuz. I agree. I usually stay out of commenting on the aesthetics of this kind of thing, but this kind of thing is just about as bad as I think I've ever seen. And I don't mean bad as good. The image and what it implies is a sad sad departure. If these are the new Chipmunks I hope they lose their asses on it.

Here's why i despise cartoon adaptations like 'Scooby-Doo', 'The Flintstones', 'Garfield', 'Underdog', and now this. Cartoons should stay animated because they have a funny, distinctive cartoony look that simply dosen't translate that well into live action. Comicbook superheroes, and maybe some action cartoons like 'Transformers' work because they're based on reality. Cartoony like cartoons aren't, and when they're translated into reality, they tend to look either completely rediculous, or utterly nightmarish! Unfortunately, Hollywood still belives that 'cartoons are for kids', and if any of the properties i mentioned were done in traditional animation, they would probable flop. (Never mind the fact that these studios don't know how to market animated films that don't fall into the Disney formula.)

Well what else could they be in a modern adaption? It's either rap group or punk rock band. They are supposed to be troublemakers after all.
I do agree, though, that the film is probably going to be horrible. Also I want that poster framed in my room. It's so awesomely bad. Why is Jason Lee smirking at the camera? What is that even supposed to mean?

Is someone argueing for the sanctity of the Chipmunks?
I mean....It was a David Seville cottage industry that came about because of variable speed tape recording and some talent.
If it is entertaining, let it live.
There is no abiding deep lagacy here.... It is not deathless pose from the 80's
I mean...It's not DuckTales. ![[Wink]](wink.gif)

I mean.. the novelty of the chipmunks.. I think now, in 2007, people GET the gag of sped up voices. We've finally wrapped our brains around 1940's technology of speeding up a tape. It's not funny anymore.
To the internet generation.. it's like interupting them from playing guitar hero2 and handing them a paddle ball.
Either REALLY make them sound/look Ghetto.. talking like gangsta rappers with profanities every other word, or make Dave a Mr.Drummond role.. Rich guy who tries to bring inner city squirrels into high society. Taming of the shrew type.
or Give Alvin turrets. Give them all different speech impediments, A studder, Turrets, a hairlip, a lisp, etc.. and Dave is a impatient high strung speech therapist who works for something like the American idol show.. and is in charge of making them pop stars.
Or go Happy Tree Friends.. and make them cute a high pitched, but go around thugging, robbing etc...
If you want to make this property edgy... make it really edgy!! "Kinda edgy" is only a lot of annoying.

It's not the sanctity of the Chipmunks that's at stake here. It's about getting this right. Where's the can of spray paint? Where's the nickel bags of rock cocaine? Where's the wad of cash? Where's the Glock? If you're going to pander to the lowest possible level, then get it right. Damn.

Ain't it ironic that the Bags keep trying to relaunch the Chipmunks, yet the characters have never equalled their ability to be funny, clever and subversive as in Herb Klynn's Format Films' original THE ALVIN SHOW, possibly the best made-for-television cartoon of the 1960s?
Aloha,
Scott!

The poster practically speaks for itself.
This is going to make even less money than the first movie.
You know, the one from 20 years ago?
The one that temporarily employed a chunk of Disney artists after The Black Cauldron?
The one that was ALREADY MADE THE WAY IT SHOULD'VE BEEN???
Nah, they didn't care when it came out on DVD last year. Know what, just let them shoot themselves in the damn foot. They deserve it.

Nah, Jason Lee is just looking around for the cops before he goes to buy his rock from them. They're also going to offer him a bootleg copy of switchblade sisters.
On another note, doesn't Jason Lee look alittle like Rossy?

Hehehehe! I worked in that movie and I'm still remember when one day the studio appeared wall-papered with Janice Karman's pics from that movie... Other than that, working in the Chipmunk movie was a complete blast for all the wrong reasons and in spite of the movie itself.

TRAILER IS UP!
The chipmunks don't look "street" at all. They look like disturbing CG versions of the cartoons, only chipmunk-sized. That's a little weird, but so are the original 3-foot tall chipmunks, I guess. They have the same voices as always, no ebonic rebooting. Jason Lee sort of sleepwalks through his scenes as Seville. His "Alvin!!!!" doesn't sound sincere.
I know this thing is going to be bad like GARFIELD, but there's a gag in the trailer that is dangerously heartwarming. Alvin eats a piece of Theodore's poop. Seriously.

Now it makes sense.

I had the displeasure of viewing this trailer while waiting for The Simpsons Movie..
That trailer alone has already f**ked up the franchise beyond belief.
Enough said.
