That is quite possibly the worst drawing I've ever seen in my life. Whoever drew it should be ashamed. Whoever thought it was good enough to put in an ad should be fired.
I mean really - what's going on there? The placement of the head makes no sense....the way the upper body connects to the torso makes no sense...the pose makes no sense! What's with the weird arm shapes!?!?!
Seriously...whoever drew that.... F you!!!!

I'm only guessing, but, it seems they may be trying for the "Genndy Tartakovsky" style of the Star Wars Clone Wars series Cartoon Network ran last year. After see the new movie trailer and the video game footage, this is bound to be a letdown. The only thing that may save it is excellent writing and art direction like the Clone Wars series. I'll hold off being too hard on them (the creative guys) until I see a show trailer.

oh wow...i don't know what to say. i know its only a poster and we've seen nothing of it in motion, but it really is ugly. the design seems at odds with itself. i think its cool theres a new 2D series coming out thats more in tune with the originals though, so i guess we'll just have to wait and see.

They gave him a weird looking face too. If they're going for a loose minimal cartoon aesthetic, there's rather a lot of fussy detail in that little head, compared with the rest of the drawing. I never thought Optimus Prime would remind me of the Incredible Hulk.

I'm not too impressed with this 'first look' at the animated series. They could have actually re-released the original cartoon back to TV in synch with the release of the movie. Fans would have loved that...
I found these images on the Transformers Movie 'Flickr'pool... I'm not sure if it's just a concept for this new show, or for what seems to be comic artwork in the rest of the flickr pool.

It honestly doesn't work for me, having grown up with the Transformers. Thing was the toys I was bought as a kid looked like what was on screen, the Transformers weren't a complete caricature of life but actually BECAME real vehicles indistinguishable from any others. As a kid I also lost interest the less like actual cars and jets they became...
But hey, I'm not the target audience. These are sparky enough, I guess, but kind of lose what Transformers was about. It just seems like a cynical rehash of what's now become a popular style.

Quick, what other popular characters can we update with this style? It would be interesting to see other classic* characters "re imagined".

Optimus Prime seems to be the weakest design of the lot, and it's primarily his waste. I like the idea of the tank guy's design though.

I don't like Transformers at all but I will totally watch this show if Matt Youngberg is helming it. At the very least it will have kick ass fight choreography, and will certainly look better than all the cartoons Hasbro's put out in the past decade.
And then there's the second level of entertainment -- watching angry TF-obsessed nerds on the internet cry about it. It's a win-win situation!

Cartoon and Hasbro execs said the new series, "Transformers Animated," will be significantly different than the others, adding humor, never-before-seen characters and a new premise in which the Autobots fight evil humans in Superhero fashion much more frequently than they battle the Decepticons -- the traditional "Transformers" lore since the property launched as a toy in 1984.
"We've used the basic Transformers and characters as a springboard, but then we're pretty much reimagining the whole thing," said Bob Higgins, senior vp programming and development at Cartoon Network. "What we're doing with it is basically turning it into a superheroes story. We're really excited that we're able to take this decades-old property and hopefully turn it into something that kids haven't seen or expected from a Transformers series before."

not quite sure if I'm on the ball here , but my memory is that the Transformers' original look was purposely outdated....as though to give them the underdog sympathetic appeal...much like good old nuclear-powered Giant Robo !!??
....I'd sure hate to see a similar restyle of THAT one ( GO Giant Robo ! )...these new versions look a bit like "Lunatics Unleashed".....I'm so hip I'm NOW kind of look .
I used to think posing was a good idea in animation hehehehe

I'm not sure i like the idea of having The Transformers in a 'superhero' motif. They never seem like superheroes, nor should they emulate them. I also don't like the designs for this new show. They just don't look right. To me The Transformers should look detailed since they're based on real life vehicles. I never cared much for the more recent cartoons that Cartoon Network aired. Making them entirely 3D in a 2D cartoon just didn't work for me, and they stood out like a sore thumb.

Wow.. that article.. I would hide any executive producers from speaking to the press.. cause it makes me hate whatever they are selling.
Is it just me, or was the tone of that article "Here is how we plan to manipulate you mental midgets..."??
I hate to stereotype.. but this guy sounds like every MBA I ever had the unfortunate discomfort of meeting.

..A job that makes it hard in the morning to wake up to.
