This was e-mailed to me from the California Labor Federation:

TO: Interested Parties
FR: Dan Terry, President, California Professional Firefighters
RE: California Fire Foundation established to aid fallen New York and DC
firefighters and their familes
Date: September 12, 2001
____________________________________________________________________________

For those of us in the fire service, this week's sinister attacks on New
York's World Trade Center and the Pentagon in Washington carried a special
stab of agony. As all of us watched the unimaginably horrific sight of the
World Trade Center towers crumbling into rubble, we knew it meant that
hundreds of our brothers and sisters with the Fire Department of New York
had lost their lives.

The tales of heroism and selflessness shown by these men and women are
almost too numerous to mention. Survivors told of firefighters bursting
through doors to find survivors. Climbing the torturous stairways even as
the building's occupants tried to flee. Handing over their own breathing
apparatus to anyone who needed an extra gasp of oxygen. Every one of these
men and women were in those buildings in pursuit of one objective: to save
lives.

Here at CPF, we've been inundated with phone calls from our members, as well
as the public, asking how they can help the families of our fallen
colleagues. For California firefighters, there is already a vehicle for
extending this helping hand through the California Fire Foundation.

During this extraordinary time, we are making the Foundation available to
our members, as well as the public, to serve as a vehicle through which all
donations can be bundled and directed to firefighters and their families in
New York and D.C.

If you know of someone who would like to donate, they can do so through:
California Fire Foundation
c/o California Professional Firefighters
1780 Creekside Oaks, Suite 200
Sacramento, CA 95833
Tax Identification Number: 68-0118991
(This is a charitable, non profit 501 (c) (3) organization, all
contributions are tax deductible. This foundation was established to assist
victims and families of fallen firefighters. We accept checks and credit
cards...please do not send cash. Make checks payable to California Fire
Foundation. Donations may also be made by credit card by calling our
toll-free number, 1-800-890-3213)

Please feel free to send this message to anyone you know who may be
interested.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of our fallen brothers and
sisters. Their courage and sacrifice ennobles and humbles us all.

Hey John-
Just noticed on another thread your mention of possible scam solicitations for donations.
I just checked this one out, and it is legit. These guys are associated with the AFL-CIO and the Fire Fighters International Union. They are sending the donations directly to FDNY Locals 854 and 94. If you have any questions you can call Shelly at (800)-890-1323.

Also, contributions can be sent through LA Firefighter's Local 1014 to:

Disaster Fund/FDNY
c/o S&A Federal Credit Union
Attn: Lee Jackson
2625 Corporate Place
Monterey Park, California 91754-7645

Hope this helps!
